Don’t Miss the Present Moment

When my son was little, I would often take him to one of the local parks. While he loved the playground, I started to notice something one summer. Shortly after we would arrive at the park, he would immediately start asking me where we were going next.

His excitement and focus over what we were going to do next caused him to forget to have fun at the park in the present moment, where he already was.

Certainly, you and I would never do that as adults, right?

I could go many different directions with this, but there’s one particular direction that keeps coming up in my heart…

Sometimes we can get so focused on healing or becoming who we think we’re supposed to be, that we miss out on who we already are.

You know that version of yourself in the future that you hope to finally one day become?

I want to encourage you to not miss the present moment as you look to the future…

As we surrender our lives to Jesus, sometimes along the way we can get so focused on who we want to become (or feel like we should become) that we can miss the beauty of who we are right now.

Who are you right now?

What has God already done in your life and in your heart?

I encourage you to pause and check in with yourself and with God.

The real you that God created is not someone you have to reach far into the future to become, as much as it is someone you discover along the way.

As we continue to yield our lives and hearts to Jesus, our true identity is often slowly discovered underneath layers of expectations, lies we have believed, and ways we have learned to protect ourselves, etc.

Striving does not get us there.

It is ok (it’s actually very healthy) to sometimes pause and take note of where you are now.

Discovering who we were created to be is more of an unveiling rather than something to be obtained.

You could spend many years striving to “get there”, just as if a carrot is being dangled in front of your face. All the while, you could miss the beauty of who you already are today.

He has so much more for you!

✨ What is something you can notice and appreciate about who you are right now? Something you otherwise may have overlooked.

If you are having trouble coming up with something, I encourage you to ask God. He has been wonderful in helping me see myself in ways that I would have otherwise only recognized in hindsight.

Lord, you created me and know me so well. What is something you want me to see and rest in, concerning who I already am today?”

Try not to downplay or dismiss what you see, hear, or notice.

I’d love to hear how this goes for you!!
